While JD Davison was let go by the Celtics, it didn’t take him long to find his next home. The former Celtics guard signed a two-way contract with the Rockets, per the NBA’s transactions log.
Davison was waived by the Celtics on Thursday, meaning they’re down to 14 roster spots. Davison had his $2.3 million option picked up by the team June 29, though it was non-guaranteed. So the C’s elected to let him go, allowing him to sign with a new team and find his next opportunity.
The Celtics drafted Davison at 53rd overall in the 2022 draft as he’s spent the last three years with the team. He was on two-way deals for the majority of his time in Boston. The Celtics did promote him to the 15th roster spot in April ahead of the playoffs.
Davison had a career-best season in 2024-25, winning the G League MVP award with the Maine Celtics. He was one of the top players in the G League, also taking part in the Rising Stars challenge at All-Star weekend.
Davison played in 36 NBA games across three season for the Celtics, averaging 1.9 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Now, he’ll get an opportunity with the Rockets going forward on a two-way contract.
Davison making the roster was unlikely as the Celtics let him go. The C’s dropped under the second apron after waiving him.
