Blake Sabol puts WooSox in front early, rolls past Jacksonville

Worcester Red Sox used two three-run bursts to build an early lead over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and the visitors managed to ride out to victory, 7-1, on Friday.

Blake Sabol doubled to right field in the first inning, driving in a pair of runs and putting the WooSox in front to start. Vaughn Grissom then scored on a balk, putting the Red Sox in front by three.

They doubled their lead in the third thanks to Marcelo Mayer and Nate Eaton’s RBI singles and Abraham Toro’s sac fly. Toro added another run to the Red Sox tally in the fifth with an RBI double.

Shane Drohan struck out six batters through four innings of work. The lefty allowed just one hit, but the win went to Bryan Mata, who replaced Drohan in the fifth and pitched two and two-thirds innings, striking out six and allowing four hits and one run.

Red Sox (3-3) will face Jacksonville on Saturday, April 5 at 6:35 p.m. in the fifth game of their six-game series with the Jumbo Shrump.
