Damiere Byrd will return to the conference where he enjoyed the most success in his career after the Buffalo Bills signed him to a one-year deal on Tuesday.
The wide receiver spent the 2020 season with the New England Patriots and had a career year with Cam Newton as the quarterback. Byrd amassed 47 receptions for 604 yards and one touchdown.
Since leaving New England after the 2020 campaign, Byrd played for the Chicago Bears before spending the last two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He couldn’t quite find the success he did while with the Patriots, and played in just one game during the 2023 season.
Now returning to the AFC East, Byrd will try to replicate what he did the last time he was in the division. The Bills are in need of wideouts, too, after they waived Bryan Thompson after he suffered a hamstring injury in Buffalo’s preseason opener against the Bears. Chase Claypool was also placed on injured reserve with a toe injury.
Buffalo traded Stefon Diggs and lost Gabe Davis in free agency, and Byrd likely has plenty left in the tank and can provide a speedy body for the Bills. And while he’s primarily been used on special teams, Byrd will be able to add depth to an injury-depleted Bills roster.
