BC men’s hockey falls to Maine, suffers first home shutout since 2022

CHESTNUT HILL – The No. 15/15 Boston College men’s hockey team fell to No. 10/11 Maine by a score of 3-0 in Hockey East action on Saturday evening at Kelley Rink.

Louka Cloutier made 16 saves between the pipes for the Eagles. Boston College moved to 7-5-1 overall and 5-3-0 in Hockey East, while Maine improved to 8-5-1 overall and 5-3-0 in league play.

Maine jumped out to an early lead just 1:32 into the game when Miguel Marques intercepted a pass in the BC defensive zone and capitalized on the opportunity to put the Black Bears in front. The Black Bears doubled their lead midway through the opening period with a short-handed goal from Josh Nadeau.

Cloutier made a huge stop early in the middle frame as he slid across quickly on a 2-on-1 to make the save on a shot by Justin Poirier. The freshman came up with two big saves just seconds apart during a Maine power play late in the second to keep it a two-goal game.

Cloutier made another key stop early in the third to prevent a short-handed goal, saving a Josh Nadeau breakaway.

The Black Bears pushed their lead to three midway through the final frame after Marques scored from the slot for his second goal of the night.

The Eagles generated 12 shots on goal in the third, but all 12 were turned aside by Maine goaltender Mathis Rousseau.
