SPRINGFIELD ― Boston College’s top men’s basketball recruit could be facing a lengthy stretch on the bench.
Trey Beamer did not participate on Saturday for IMG Academy (FL) in the Crusaders’ 56-53 loss to Archbishop Stepinac (NY) at the 2026 Hoophall Classic.
The No. 76 recruit in the Class of 2026 will not compete in the Crusader’s game on Sunday either against CIA-Bella Vista (AZ) at 4 p.m.
As Beamer explained to MassLive, the 6-foot-3 guard broke his fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand three weeks ago at the John Wall Classic in Raleigh, N.C. The Crusaders played three games between Dec. 27-30, after which Beamer started to notice some discomfort.
“It kind of happened during the game, but I didn’t really feel it until after,” Beamer said.
Beamer explained that the injury may not need surgery to heal, in which case he could return to the court and play for the Crusaders later this season.
However, if Beamer’s next evaluation determines that surgery is necessary, he expects to miss the rest of his senior season.
Beamer confirmed that he remains in communication with Boston College men’s basketball coach Earl Grant and expects to be ready for the start of the 2026-2027 season even if surgery is necessary.
“They know everything that’s going on, they been helping me as well,” Beamer said.
Born in Martinsville, Va., Beamer’s high school career began at Carlisle School (VA), playing two seasons for the Chiefs before transferring to IMG.
“My old school is nothing like IMG. It was a big transition, my junior year, but I got used to it,” Beamer said. “It definitely feels like college… I asked guys that are in college about college workouts and stuff, it’s pretty much the same as we do at IMG.
“I feel like it’s definitely preparing me for next year, I feel like I’ll be pretty comfortable there.”
Beamer is BC’s first top-100 commit since Jairus Hamilton (No. 58 in Class of 2018). Despite having just two winning seasons over the past 15 years for the Eagles, Beamer is excited to join Grant’s team and help the Eagles get back into the win column with more consistency.
“I definitely felt the love, for sure, felt like I was wanted at BC,” Beamer said on his first visit to Boston and the BC campus back in late August.
“I feel like my talents are definitely needed there. The fans, they’re definitely invested if they’re winning (so) I just want to bring that life back to the town.”
IMG Academy boys basketball coach Sean McAloon praised Beamer for his basketball IQ and noted how valuable his presence on the court is to the Crusaders’ offense.
“Right now, we’re missing 14.5 points and six assists, so it’s a killer,” McAloon said. “Just a good kid, good family, everybody should be excited about him.
“He’s a really good player, he makes other players better, he can make shots (and) he figures out how to score buckets.”
