Baseball State Tournament Roundup: Easthampton earns comeback win against Wareham

Division I

No. 28 Catholic Memorial (11), No. 37 Malden (1)

Catholic Memorial defeated Malden, 11–1, in the Division I baseball state tournament preliminary round on Thursday.

Catholic Memorial will now play No. 5 Xaverian in the Round of 32.

Division II

No. 32 Bay Path (2), No. 33 Agawam (1)

Agawam fell to Bay Path on the road, 2-1, in the Division II state tournament preliminary round on Thursday.

Owen Lavelle drove in Agawam’s lone run, Cole Ingham went 3-for-3 for the Brownies and Gavin Shlosser struck out seven in the loss.

The Minutemen will play No. 1 Plymouth North in the next round.

Division IV

No. 30 Blue Hills Tech (6), No. 35 South Hadley (3)

South Hadley fell to Blue Hills Tech, 6-3, in the Division IV state tournament preliminary round on Thursday on the road.

Justin Moskal started on the mound for the Tigers and struck out five in the loss. Logan Carpenter led the way in the batter’s box for South Hadley, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a double.

Blue Hills Tech will play No. 3 Hamilton-Wenham in the next round.

No. 31 Amesbury (5), No. 34 St. Mary’s (Westfield) (3)

St. Mary’s (Westfield) fell to Amesbury, 5-3, in the Division IV state tournament preliminary round on Thursday.

Amesbury will now play No. 2 Lynnfield in the Round of 32.

Division V

No. 28 Easthampton (8), No. 37 Wareham (5)

A strong fifth inning led Easthampton past Wareham, 8-5, in the Division V state tournament preliminary round at home on Thursday.

The Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to grab the lead and never looked back. Ethan Mullaly got the win on the mound, while Patrick Larson got the save. Anthony Incampo led the way in the batter’s box, going 2-for-4, scoring a run, knocking in four more and stealing a base

Easthampton will play No. 5 Ware in the next round.

No. 27 Monson (5), No. 38 Springfield International Charter (2)

Monson defeated Springfield International Charter, 5-2, in the Division V state tournament preliminary round on Thursday.

The Mustangs will now play No. 6 Hopkins Academy in the Round of 32.
