Authorities have found the body of Alex DaLomba Tavares, a Massachusetts man who was in his 20s, after he was swept away by a waterfall in Puerto Rico earlier this week, news outlets reported.
The 27-year-old New Bedford man was swept away by the current of the Gozalandia waterfall in the municipality of San Sebastián on Wednesday, leading emergency teams and rescuers to kick off a search for him, according to NBC10 Boston.
DaLomba Tavares’ body was discovered on the banks of the Culebrinas River in San Sebastián, Telemundo Puerto Rico reported.
The search for DaLomba Tavares started around 6 a.m. and concluded around 11:40 a.m. after a rescuer spotted a hand in the brush and discovered the man’s body, NBC10 Boston reported, citing Daniel Cabrero Núñez, the interim director of the Emergency Management Center in San Sebastián.
The man’s body was subsequently identified by his girlfriend, according to NBC10.
