The Great Barrington Public Theater has announced its 2025 season, which kicks off with up-and-coming playwright Maggie Kearnan’s “How to Not Save the World with Mr Bezos,” presented in association with Boston’s Playwrights Theatre. Next up on the McConnell stage, Judy Braha will direct Anne Undeland’s commissioned work, “Madame Mozart, The Lacrimosa.” This first piece to be commissioned by GBPT features a live pianist accompanying the cast. The final production of the season, “Grant: An Evening With the General,” came to GBPT courtesy of the late Treat Williams, who was developing the work. Mark St. Germain has completed Williams’ script. For details: greatbarringtonpublictheater.org.
“The Wiz,” the national tour of the recent Broadway revival, comes to The Bushnell on March 11-15. “The Wiz” is a reimagining of “The Wizard of Oz,” which took Broadway by storm over 50 years ago. Featuring a book by William F. Brown and a Tony Award-winning score by Charlie Smalls (and others), Director Schele Williams (“The Notebook”), choreographer JaQuel Knight, and additional material by Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin. The original launched the careers of Stephanie Mills, DeeDee Bridgewater, and Hinton Battle, and the musical was adapted into a film with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. You may recall some of the songs from “The Wiz:” “Ease on Down The Road,” “Home,” and “If You Believe.” For details: bushnell.org.
