Arrest made in fatal motorcycle crash in Mass.

A motorcyclist was arrested in connection with a fatal crash on Sunday evening in Methuen that left a woman dead, the Essex County district attorney’s office confirmed to MassLive.

Police had sought the public’s assistance in locating the rider of the motorcycle, who left the scene following the crash, MassLive reported. The rider was arrested Monday.

The charges the rider faced and their identity were not immediately available, pending their arraignment Tuesday morning, Sharyn Lubas, a spokesperson for the district attorney, said in an email.

Officers went to the area near 471 Lowell St. around 8:35 p.m. and found a 62-year-old Methuen woman lying face down on the side of the road, police said in a statement. A passerby found the Methuen woman after the crash and reported the incident.

The first responding officer tried to aid the victim medically until paramedics arrived, but she was declared dead after being taken to Lawrence General Hospital, police said. Video footage of the crash showed that a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed had struck the woman.

The motorcycle rider slowed down and stopped after hitting the victim, then continued down the road, police said.
