Are you a Mass. student? Want to name a snow plow? Here’s your chance

Massachusetts students interested in naming a state snow plow now have until next week to do so.

The deadline to submit names for the state’s annual “Name a Snowplow” contest has been extended to 5 p.m. on Dec. 13, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The contest is soliciting names for 12 MassDOT snowplows that will be used this winter season, according to a statement from the department.

“The purpose of the contest is to celebrate the snow and ice season and to help recognize the hard work and dedication shown by public works employees and contractors during the winter season,” the statement said.

The winning names will be announced on Dec. 20.

A panel of MassDOT employees will choose two classroom winners located within each of the six Highway Division districts. The winning names will be based on two grade level categories: Kindergarten through fourth grade and fifth grade through eighth grade.

Last year, the winning names were Flower Plower, Edward Blizzardhands, Glacier Gobbler, Polar Pathmaker, Snow B Wan Kenobi, The Snolar Express, Sleetwood Mac, Snow Place Like Home, Snow-hemian Rhapsody, The Mayplower, Snow Monstah, Fast and Flurryous, the department said.

The names were placed on the sides of trucks a year ago, the department said.
