Arc flash survivor speaks to linemen at WG&E-hosted safety training

WESTFIELD — The Western Mass Public Utilities Co-op hosted Rodney Walker, an arc flash survivor on March 13 at the Westfield Gas & Electric/Whip City Fiber Operations Center. Linemen and other field crews (fiber techs, gas workers) and dispatchers from Chicopee Electric Light, Holyoke Gas & Electric, and South Hadley Electric joined WG&E/WCF employees to hear the story of Walker’s accident and recovery.

Walker is a 24-year employee of one of the largest utilities in the U.S. His background includes experience as an aerial lineman and first class transmission & substation operator. He later began his professional career as an electric facilities clearance writer, an environmental and training coordinator and safety professional and instructor.
