Temperatures will remain relatively cool across Massachusetts on Tuesday, but a warming trend will lead to temperatures skyrocketing back up to the upper 90s by Friday.
On Tuesday morning, some parts of Massachusetts saw temperatures more akin to a spring day than the middle of summer, peaking in the low 60s and falling below 50 in parts of the state. Temperatures are still expected to reach the 70s to around 80, with a sea breeze making it feel cooler along the immediate coast, National Weather Service forecasters said.
But heat and humidity will start to return on Wednesday, climbing to the mid-80s for parts of the state not along the immediate coast. The warming trend will continue on Thursday, reaching the high 80s to low 90s, and humidity pushing heat indices into the mid 90s.
The heat will peak on Friday with highs in the low to mid 90s and heat in the high 90s to low 100s. Some showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday due to the presence of moisture in the air and an approaching cold front.
Temperatures will be cooler on the weekend, but conditions will still be humid and showers and storms are possible, forecasters cautioned.
