Amherst Town Council creates Black Reparations Committee

AMHERST ― The Amherst Town Council voted unanimously last week to create a Black Reparations Committee. This decision comes almost two years after the African Heritage Reparation Assembly gave its final report to the council.

The new committee will recommend how to spend reparations funds to address the harm caused by slavery and discrimination.

Amilcar Shabazz, who was part of the original assembly, said the committee could have recommendations by the end of the year if members are appointed soon.
