Aaron Judge is questioning his manager’s comments about his throwing.
Aaron Boone said Tuesday during an appearance on WFAN that the New York Yankees outfielder might not throw at 100% for the rest of 2025 due to a flexor strain.
The manager walked back those comments hours later, noting he may have overstated what he meant. But Judge didn’t like what Boone said to begin with.
“I don’t know why he said that,” Judge told reporters, via The New York Post’s Greg Joyce. “He hasn’t seen me throw the past two weeks. I’m pretty confident I’ll get back to (100%).”
Judge was placed on the injured list on July with the flexor strain, but began a throwing program on Aug. 7 and has thrown from 150 feet. He’s been limited to the designated hitter role, and it’s unclear when he’ll return to the field.
Boone clarified his comments prior to the Yankees’ game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
“I think I was trying to say initially, I don’t expect him coming out making Aaron Judge throws that we’ve become accustomed to seeing,” he said.
Going into Tuesday’s game, the Yankees sit second in the American League East standings and are in a three-way tie with the Boston Red Sox and the Seattle Mariners for the top Wild Card spot, though New York has 57 losses while Seattle and Boston have 58. But the trio of teams boast a .540 win percentage.
The Yankees wrap up their series against the Rays on Wednesday before welcoming the Red Sox to New York on Thursday for an important four-game set.
