A neighborhood guide to outdoor dining around Boston

Boston’s outdoor dining season has returned as restaurants all over the city have started to open their patios.

Whether it’s sitting seaside in Seaport or people watching in Back Bay, each neighborhood offers a different dining experience.

To help you find your preferred vibe, here’s a breakdown of the best patios in several of Boston’s neighborhoods, along with six restaurants in Cambridge.

Back Bay

Porto

Ring Road, 617-536-1234

Porto’s patio is intended to transport diners to the Italian coast with its greenery and lemon installation. The patio has bar seating, ample standing room and tables for dinner reservations, which can be made on the restaurant website. Porto is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Earls Kitchen + Bar Prudential Center

Earls’ four-season patio, filled with lush greenery, gets extra lively during the warmer months. Diners can pair their outdoor dining experience with craft cocktails, great wine and a globally-inspired menu. Earls is open 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to midnight Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Stratus at View Boston at Prudential Center

Sip on cocktails or share a meal from the tallest rooftop bar in New England. Located on the 51st floor of the Prudential Center, Stratus offers a curated cocktail menu paired with a 360-degree open-air roof deck. Stratus is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Stephanie’s on Newbury

This expansive private patio is considered the original Newbury Street patio dining experience. The outdoor space is ideal for people watching while enjoying an iconic Boston meal. Stephanie’s patio is open for lunch, weekend brunch and dinner every day. Stephanie’s on Newbury is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Saltie Girl

Saltie Girl’s sunken patio is situated on the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth streets. The patio is open for lunch, weekend brunch and dinner every day. Saltie Girl is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Rochambeau

Diners can get a taste of Paris while eating on Rochambeau’s large private patio located just outside the Prudential Center. Rochambeau is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to midnight Friday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Abe & Louie’s

This renowned steakhouse offers outdoor dining along bustling Boylston Street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. Enveloped in topiaries, Abe & Louie’s patio is lined with heat lamps, which are ideal for chilly nights, and awnings for daytime meals. Abe & Louie’s is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Atlantic Fish Company

Atlantic Fish Company opens its doors to create a stylish outdoor patio during the warmer months. The space features gorgeous floral and vegetative arrangements. Atlantic Fish Company is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Eva

Eva boasts the largest patio on Newbury Street, complete with fresh Winston Flowers and perfect people-watching views. The outdoor space is a great spot to hang out before a Red Sox Game, meet up with friends, or celebrate a special occasion. Eva is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 0 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday 1 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Cambridge

Glass House

An outdoor bar and dining space located next to the Broad Canal, Glass House is a short walk from the Kendall Square stop on the Red Line. Adirondack chairs are found throughout the patio, which also has a fire pit. The outdoor space is available for private events and weddings as well. Glass House is open 12 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Harvest Restaurant

Nestled in Harvard Square, this partially covered patio features a fireplace that diners can cozy up next to in the evening. The outdoor space also features lounge seating for parties up to six and traditional tables for smaller groups. Harvest is open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Bar Enza

Bar Enza is located at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge and offers a heated, covered patio that’s ideal for outdoor dining. Bar Enza is open from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Puritan & Company

Puritan & Company’s outdoor covered patio is open Monday through Saturday for dinner. The hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday through Saturday.

The Lexington

This rooftop patio is conveniently located in a new development right off the Lechmere stop on the Green Line. The patio is open Monday through Saturday for dinner. Dinner hours are 4 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Monteverdi

Monteverdi’s patio offers shade, sips and the restaurant’s signature Italian fare. With unobstructed views of the Charles River, the patio hosts live music and serves as an ideal space for special events. The patio fits up to 90 people. Monteverdi is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4 to 10:30 p.m. Friday through Saturday.

Downtown & Financial District

Ned Devine’s

Ned Devine’s extensive patio has a large screen for catching a game or watching music videos. There are plenty of umbrellas for shade and string lights for nighttime outings. Ned Devine’s also has an outdoor event space available for groups of 10 to 40 people. Ned Devine’s is open 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Sugar Factory

Diners can split one of Sugar Factory’s signature goblets while soaking up the sun on the restaurant’s outdoor patio at Faneuil Hall. Seasonal pop-up menus will also be offered throughout the spring. Sugar Factory is open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Matria at InterContinental Boston

Located at InterContinental Boston, Matria features a 2,700-square-foot terrace complete with five fire pits and views of the Boston Harbor and Seaport. The patio fits up to 90 people and offers the restaurant’s signature Northern-Italian steakhouse menu, seasonal specials and cocktails. The terrace is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Smith & Wollensky

This upscale patio offers views of Boston Harbor at Smith & Wollensky’s Boston location. The brand’s Burlington and Wellesley restaurants also offer outdoor dining. Smith & Wollensky’s Boston location is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Saturday.

North End

Mare Oyster Bar

This hidden patio offers a quaint dining experience as it is tucked away from the bustling streets and crowds of downtown Boston. The outdoor space at this seafood-focused restaurant comes with fire pits, couches, tables and a view of the Financial District skyline. Mare Oyster Bar is open 5 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Trattoria Il Panino

Trattoria Il Panino boasts an expansive outdoor patio underneath a retractable awning that can shield diners from the sun or rain when needed. The patio seats 50 people on the Parmenter Street side of the restaurant. Trattoria Il Panino is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Joe’s Waterfront

This expansive patio in the North End offers unobstructed water views of Boston Harbor. New this year, Joe’s Waterfront has dedicated a section of its patio to create a lounge-like atmosphere that is decked with custom-made lawn furniture. Joe’s Waterfront is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Forcella

Forcella’s hidden patio is a true gem in the North End. The patio fits up to 44 people, is pet-friendly and available for private events. Forcella is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Seaport

Legal Harborside

This four-season rooftop bar opens its retractable glass walls during the warmer months for an unparalleled dining experience. Diners can enjoy sushi, oyster dishes and other signature dishes while taking in the view of Boston Harbor. Legal Harborside is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Woods Hill Pier 4

Woods Hill Pier 4’s outdoor patio offers panoramic views of Boston Harbor. Guests can enjoy sustainably sourced dishes while enjoying the fresh sea breeze and scenic skyline. The patio fits up to 60 people. Woods Hill Pier 4 is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., then 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., then 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Lolita Fort Point

Lolita’s outdoor patio officially opened in April, offering waterfront dining for those visiting Seaport. The patio opens at 11:30 a.m. every day. Lolita is open 11:30 to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday.

Moxies

Dining at Moxies rooftop patio just got more exciting because the restaurant recently revamped its brunch menu. In addition to the new menu, Moxies is introducing a “Build Your Own Mimosa” option where guests can pick from a choice of bubbles, paired with an arrangement of juices. Moxies’ patio is open for weekend brunch and weekday and weekend lunches and dinners. Moxies is open 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday and 11:30 a.m. to midnight Monday.

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse

The patio at Davio’s in Seaport is open starting in April. Diners can take in views of Boston Harbor while enjoying Davio’s signature Italian and seafood dishes, cocktails and wines. Davio’s is open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
