A meal fit for royalty is coming to Worcester’s Mechanics Hall this month

A medieval-themed dinner is coming to Worcester this month, promising a scavenger hunt, shops that sell swords and the chance to dine like royalty.

Worcester’s Mechanics Hall will be hosting the Banquet of the Dying Daylight from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 31.

The banquet is being held to help raise money for the independent fantasy film, Tales of the Dying Daylight, according to the film and banquet’s director, Adam Newman.

Newman, 27, said the inspiration for the banquet came from another event held at Mechanics Hall, the Dead of Winter Horror Festival.

“Dead of Winter is run by a couple of people that I know in the film industry,” Newman said. “Every year I go there and I go, ‘Wow, this space is really, really incredible.’ And then I kind of went, ‘alright maybe we have an opportunity to do something in here and do it a little bit different.’ Instead of horror-themed, we’re obviously doing it kind of fantasy-themed.”

Newman encouraged guests to dress in fantasy-style clothing to match the theme of the banquet. When guests arrive, they will be greeted by a variety of vendors selling swords, jewelry, candles and other crafts.

The filmmaker told MassLive the vendors sold wares at Renaissance fairs in New England, including King Richard’s Faire in Massachusetts.

The banquet will also feature a scavenger hunt, where guests will be given 10 cards with clues on them. Then they will go on a quest to find the clues. Newman did not give away what they would be searching for.

“It’s gamifying everything, he said. ”Let’s make every aspect of the banquet as fun as we possibly can with all the limitations and restrictions that we do have.“

As for the banquet itself, guests can expect a four-course meal, including a meat and potato-based stew, according to Newman.

Those who purchase the $500 VIP ticket will get the chance to eat on a throne in front of the rest of the guests, like a king overseeing his royal subjects, Newman said.

Those who buy a VIP ticket also have the chance to be an extra in the upcoming movie, which is filming in Massachusetts, he said.

There will also be entertainment and performances during the dinner, though Newman declined to offer any details so he wouldn’t spoil what he said would be “surprises.”

“It’s something where you can go out, you can have fun. You can engage with the performer, you can see performances,” said Newman about the event. “You’re going to get fed for the most part.”

Tickets range from $45 to $1,000 and can be purchased hereof .

Mechanics Hall is located at 321 Main St. in Worcester.
