A historic cosmic event will be on display

For an eclipse to happen, three celestial bodies must align — a common occurrence in our solar system and beyond. When Earth is involved however, such events become important because we are here to see them. Total solar eclipses like the one on Monday, April 8 — just days from now — are the most cherished.

While Springfield and the rest of southern New England is not in the path of totality, we will experience a very deep partial eclipse. If you do not have specially made glasses, you can build a pinhole projectors, or look for crescent-shaped shadows on the ground.
