Boston Legacy FC releases ‘First Light’ home kits for inaugural season

For its first-ever home kit, Boston Legacy FC will stick with the emerald green of its shield as the primary color.

To celebrate the kit, on Friday, Boston City Hall and the Rose Kennedy Greenway will both be lit up with green light.

The neck and sleeves of the “First Light” kit will be bordered with what the team describes as “Pitch Black” and “Fireberry.”

The front of the jersey will feature the Legacy’s crest as well as the sponsorship from TJ Maxx.

For the shirt’s hem tag, there will be an allusion to the Franklin Park Zoo.

“This is the foundational kit upon which we will build our legacy,” Boston Legacy President Jennifer van Dijk said in a statement. “The green of our kit grounds us in the city we are so proud to represent, like the green of our parks, including Franklin Park, our future home. It stands out among a league of standout teams, and is part of our mission to create something lasting from day one.”

As the franchise’s inaugural kit, Boston coach Filipa Patão expects her players to sport it with pride and bring plenty of energy to the team’s fans.

“The responsibility we have towards our community and our supporters is enormous, and we are well aware of that. When we step foot on the field, we are here to play exciting football and when you look at our jersey, you’ll have that feeling of excitement at seeing the game,” Patão said.

“That is exactly why we are here, to embrace this responsibility and fight every day for our badge, for our club, for our city. It will never be about the name or the number we carry on our backs, but about the crest we wear on our chest. We will wear the shirt with great pride and ambition, because we don’t just want to see history being made, we want to be part of it.”

For the release of the club’s secondary kit, the Legacy will hold an event for fans at the Boston Center for the Arts on Feb. 26. As part of the event, fans will have a chance to win free giveaways, and take photos.
