A Clinton man who police say forcibly removed a woman from her car at a West Boylston Dairy Queen on Sunday is also facing charges in connection with assaulting his relatives and taking his grandfather’s car without permission before the carjacking, according to court documents.
Cameron Jack Suarez, 26, is charged with carjacking, assault and battery, unarmed robbery, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, threat to commit a crime and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license in connection with the West Boylston incident.
Suarez is also facing a dozen charges in connection with an incident involving his family members in Clinton that happened shortly before the West Boylston carjacking, according to court documents. Those charges include multiple counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of a car crash and wanton destruction of property, among others.
What happened prior to the carjacking
On July 6, Clinton police responded to a home on South Meadow Road shortly after 6:45 p.m. for a report that a man had taken off in his grandfather’s car without permission while intoxicated, according to the police report about the incident. At the scene, Suarez’s family members told police he had come to the home and asked for a ride into Worcester.
After Suarez’s request was denied, he drove off in his grandfather’s car without permission, according to the police report. While taking the car, he hit his grandfather and mother with the car’s doors, knocking them to the ground, his family told police.
Suarez also repeatedly backed into another car at the home while trying to escape in his grandfather’s car, according to the police report. Both cars were left heavily damaged.
What happened in West Boylston
Shortly before 7 p.m., West Boylston police were called to the Dairy Queen on West Boylston Street after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting that people were fighting in the drive through and that someone was trying to steal another person’s car keys, according to the police report about the incident.
Officers found the victim — a 55-year-old woman — sitting in the grass in front of the Dairy Queen with an injured knee, according to the police report. She was medically evaluated at the scene and declined to be taken to a hospital.
The victim told police that she was waiting in her car in the drive-through line when a man — who was later identified as Suarez — came over to her driver’s side window and started knocking on it, according to the police report. When she opened the window to speak to him, he told her he had a gun and would shoot her if she didn’t get out of her car, she told police.
The victim never saw Suarez holding a gun, but she still feared for her life, according to the police report. After an argument with the victim, he “forcefully ripped her out of her vehicle with his hands and threw her onto the cement ground.”
Suarez then drove off and began heading down I-190, according to the police report. The victim’s account of what happened was corroborated by security video from the Dairy Queen.
West Boylston police found Suarez’s grandfather’s car still running in the parking lot of the West Boylston Package Store, according to the police report. A surveillance camera caught Suarez walking south down West Boylston Street to the Dairy Queen, police wrote.
How Suarez was finally arrested
Both Clinton and West Boylston police notified nearby law enforcement agencies of the incidents and asked them to look out for Suarez, according to the police report. Shortly after 7:45 p.m., a Leicester police officer spotted him and began pursuing him.
Suarez was eventually stopped by police in Oxford and arrested, according to the police report. He hit a Leicester police cruiser while trying to evade police, The Telegram & Gazette reported.
The July 6 incidents happened while Suarez was out on bail in connection with a July 15, 2023, shooting in Clinton, the Telegram reported. He is charged with assault with intent to murder and eight other counts out of Worcester County Superior Court in connection with the shooting.
Suarez was released on $10,000 bail in the shooting case in May 2024 with the condition that he wear a GPS location-monitoring device, the Telegram reported. He cut off the device at some point prior to the July 6 incidents.
Suarez pleaded not guilty to the charges in Clinton on Monday in Clinton District Court and was ordered held without bail pending a detention hearing scheduled for July 11, according to court records. He is also set to be arraigned in the same court on the charges out of West Boylston on that date.
