A two-car crash on Route 3 in Weymouth left a woman dead and a man with life-threatening injuries Saturday morning, according to authorities.
Massachusetts State Police patrols responded to the crash on the northbound side of Route 3 in Weymouth around 5 a.m. Saturday. An initial investigation suggests a 2015 Lexus SUV and a 2020 Jeep SUV collided in the northbound lanes of the highway near exit 38 for Route 18, State Police said in a statement.
The driver of the Lexus, a 60-year-old Weymouth woman, was determined to be dead at the scene of the crash. The passenger of the same car, a 34-year-old man, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries, and he was taken to a hospital in the area. Their names are not being released to the public at this time, State Police said.
The person inside the Jeep was taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure, according to State Police’s statement.
All lanes of Route 3 northbound were closed between 5:05 a.m. and around 7:30 a.m. Traffic was diverted with help from the Weymouth Police Department. The scene of crash was cleared by around 8 a.m., the statement said.
The facts, circumstances surrounding the crash and possible contributing factors remain under investigation by State Police.
