A two-car crash on Route 3 in Weymouth left a woman dead and a man with life-threatening injuries Saturday morning, according to authorities.

Massachusetts State Police patrols responded to the crash on the northbound side of Route 3 in Weymouth around 5 a.m. Saturday. An initial investigation suggests a 2015 Lexus SUV and a 2020 Jeep SUV collided in the northbound lanes of the highway near exit 38 for Route 18, State Police said in a statement.

The driver of the Lexus, a 60-year-old Weymouth woman, was determined to be dead at the scene of the crash. Their names are not being released to the public at this time, State Police said.

The person inside the Jeep was taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure, according to State Police’s statement.

All lanes of Route 3 northbound were closed between 5:05 a.m. and around 7:30 a.m. Traffic was diverted with help from the Weymouth Police Department. The scene of crash was cleared by around 8 a.m., the statement said.
