Ed Lee won’t be living out his dream after all.
The Patriots announced they waived the rookie wide receiver on Wednesday. Lee showed some flashes of his potential during training camp. But he wasn’t on the field Wednesday for practice after appearing to suffer an injury Tuesday.
The Patriots waving Lee clears a spot on the 90-man roster.
New England signed the 24-year-old in June — something he called a “dream come true.”
“It was emotional for sure,” Lee told reporters in June of his phone call with the Patriots. “There’s 32 teams and the one that I get an opportunity with is my favorite team. A dream come true and just excited to be here.”
It was never a guarantee that Lee would make the Patriots’ roster out of camp. New England drafted two receivers in this year’s draft. The Pats also signed JuJu Smith-Schuster in the offseason, and claimed Thyrick Pitts off waivers from the Chicago Bears this week.
The Patriots continue training camp Thursday. It’s unclear how they plan to fill the final spot on their roster.
