MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis Police Department officer has died after being found unresponsive after a suspected medical emergency, WREG reported.
Officers responded to a call for help near City Hall and the MPD records building on Jan. 13, according to the report. Officer Charles H. Cathey was discovered unresponsive at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Cathey’s death resulted from a medical emergency, with no signs of foul play, according to MPD.
Cathey was a 37-year veteran of the Memphis Police Department, serving with distinction in the Crime Scene Unit on the Bravo Shift, according to the report.
“He leaves behind a lasting legacy,” the MPD stated. “Please keep Officer Cathey’s family and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
