Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Late Fall Programing

Longmeadow – The Longmeadow Parks & Reccreation Department presents the following upcoming programs. Unless otherwise indicated, registration for all programs is available on www.lprd.net.

Family Dance: Couples will learn an easy beginner partner routine for six Saturday morning practices and one stage rehearsal. During this fun-filled class, parents and children will dance, shake, twirl, and spin to create a dynamic routine that will be performed in the annual recital. No experience necessary. Select Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Community House beginning Dec. 14. Registration deadline: Dec. 11.

Discounted Thunderbirds Hockey Tickets: Purchase your Springfield Thunderbirds hockey ticket vouchers for any of this season’s home games, now! Vouchers are sold which can be brought to the Mass Mutual Box Office anytime to exchange for reserved seats.

December School Break Programs:

Mad Science Forts & Catapults with Crazy Contraptions, GR K-5. Children learn the difference between a catapult and a trebuchet. They learn how to adjust for distance and accuracy, and they have the chance to launch projectiles with catapults and a large trebuchet! The inventors bring home their own catapult to experiment with.

Rube Goldberg became famous for his drawings of complex machines that perform very simple tasks. Children will learn about simple machines and devices to transfer energy, then design, build, and test their own wacky Rube Goldberg machines using every-day materials. Monday, Dec. .23, 9 a.m. to noon Registration deadline: Dec. 18.

Chess Wizards Camp, GR. 1-5. Join in this Winter break for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes. This camps include fun team chess games (like Corner Chess), recess time (of course), snacks, tournaments, and puzzles. Include are all the materials necessary for your child to participate. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 26 to Dec. 27 at the Community House. Choose from a half-day or full-day program. Registration deadline: Dec. 18.

Art-Ventures Sparkly Snowflakes & Magic Mittens, GR. K-5. In this art-venture, children will go walkin’ in a winter wonderland. Paint family snowman portraits on stretched canvas, create sparkling beaded snowflakes, sculpt clay snowmen, and design colorful scratch art mittens. Monday, Dec. 30, 9 a.m.-Noon at the Community House. Registration deadline: Dec. 18.

Food Explorers, Delicious Holiday Cooking Camp, GR. 2-5. Join Food Explorers for a delicious holiday cooking camp! You’ll be making Candy Cane Trifles and a Food Explorers favorite for lunch, homemade cheese ravioli! Everyone will make, knead and roll their own pasta dough. Recipes are nut-free but do contain dairy, eggs and gluten. Join Food Explorers Monday, Dec. 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Community House. Registration deadline: Dec. 18.

Coming in Jan., Family Bingo Night returns. Enjoy a night of family fun on Friday, Jan. 17, the doors of the Community House open at 6 p.m., and games start promptly at 6:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served. Pre-registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
