WESTFIELD – The first item on the agenda at the Special City Council meeting on Nov. 26 was acceptance of an appropriation of $1 million from Mayor Michael McCabe from free cash to reduce the FY25 tax rate.
“Everyone in this room should take a lot of credit for what is happening here,” said Finance committee member Richard Sullivan in introducing the motion at the meeting. He said he had agreed with Councilors Ralph Figy and Cindy Harris that it was not going to happen, based on the mayor’s previous statements.
”This body pressed the issue anyway. Everybody from this body did a very good job in trying to help the residential tax rate,” Sullivan said.
