FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A tornado tore through the Fort Pierce area during Hurricane Milton, damaging part of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Keith Pearson stated in a social media post.

The tornado destroyed a 10,000-square-foot red iron building that housed the department’s patrol cars and other vehicles, Tampa Bay 10 reported. No one was inside the building when it collapsed, and no injuries were reported.

“If you’re seeing this video and you’re getting these warnings, take shelter. This is a real storm. This is a dangerous storm,” Pearson said in the post.

Pearson also praised deputies for their efforts in rescuing more than 25 people from a mobile home community ravaged by a tornado. At least 4 people within the community were killed in the incident.
