MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Milwaukee police have released bodycam footage of a pursuit that ended in an officer-involved shooting, WISN reported.
The incident began when officers initiated a traffic stop on June 20, according to the report. The vehicle was wanted in connection with two armed robbery carjackings earlier that day.
Dash camera video released on Aug. 2 shows the driver initially pull over and stop before speeding away. Officers pursued the vehicle for several minutes as the driver traveled the wrong way in traffic and fled at high speeds.
The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle entered a construction lane on I-43 near W. Vienna Avenue and collided with a cement truck, blocking the path.
As officers approached, the driver reversed into a squad car before accelerating again in an attempt to get around the truck. Officers, now outside of their cruisers, issued multiple instructions to stop the vehicle with guns raised.
The driver accelerated in reverse directly toward an officer. Another officer then fired into the vehicle, injuring an 18-year-old female and a 17-year-old male. The injured suspects were transported to local hospitals and are expected to survive, but the pregnant woman’s unborn child did not survive.
All six suspects in the vehicle were arrestedand charges have been issued by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, according to the report.
