THE COLONY, Texas — Quick actions by police officers in The Colony saved a man’s life after a car crashed and became trapped between two barriers on an overpass, NBC 5 reported.

The Colony Police Department shared dramatic body camera footage from the July 19 incident, showing the intense moments when officers arrived at the scene.
Officers found a car pinned between dividing barriers along the southbound and northbound lanes of the overpass, with flames sparking under the front side of the vehicle.
Officer Edwardo Hernandez, a sworn officer with the department since 2022, used a fire extinguisher to try and put out the flames, but the electric car continued to burn.
Using a Halligan tool, he smashed the window and cut the airbag, revealing the disoriented driver, who repeatedly said, “I’m okay.” Hernandez pulled the driver from the vehicle with assistance from other officers, moving him to safety minutes before the car was engulfed in flames.
Hernandez credited his training and faith for his ability to help.
“Through that, I was able to help this person, save his life and be able to see another day,” he told NBC5.
The driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries related to the crash and is recovering, according to the report. An officer was also hospitalized for smoke inhalation but is expected to be okay. Other officers involved were evaluated by paramedics and returned to duty
