MELVINDALE, Mich. — The reward for information leading to the conviction of a man suspected of shooting and killing a Melvindale police officer has been increased, federal officials announced Monday.
The reward has been raised to up to $37,500 from $20,000 for tips that help authorities convict Michael Lopez, 44, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said in a statement.
Officials said the reward is being offered by the ATF along with Melvindale police, the Michigan State Police , and the Police Defense Foundation.
Lopez is wanted in the shooting death of Melvindale police officer Mohamed Said, which happened at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, they said.
Investigators said the shooting happened near a car wash at Oaklwood Boulevard and Dix Road .
Lopez is described as about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 245 pounds.
Police said Sunday that he has tattoos and was last seen shirtless on a green bicycle. He is considered armed and dangerous.
