How Mass. school districts are coping with the worst budget crisis in decades

Cities and towns across the Commonwealth are facing layoffs and program cuts as they experience budget issues with inflation and the end of federal stimulus money, including federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) money.

As districts are contending with their budgets, some towns and cities are fixing deficits by using city funds and taxpayer dollars to aid school budgets and others are making continued cuts and layoffs.
