Celtics gush over Boston fans ahead of Game 5, potential title

BOSTON — If there’s any silver lining after the Celtics blew Game 4 of the NBA Finals, it’s that they get a chance to closeout the Mavs on their home court. Just like the 2008 team, which also celebrated on the TD Garden court, the Celtics can celebrate with their fans in Boston.

So ahead of Game 5, set for 8:30 p.m. Monday, the Celtics are expecting a raucous atmosphere.

“It’s going to be special tomorrow,” Al Horford said. “It’s going to be electric. The fans, they’ve wanted to be a part of an opportunity and game of this magnitude with a chance that we have in front of us. So I know it’s going to be electric here from before the game. I’ve been in these types of games, like where they are big games like that. The fans here, they are all into it. So I don’t expect anything less.”

The Celtics have had a strong home playoff showing as that hasn’t been the case in past seasons. The C’s have put together an 8-2 record in home playoff games thus far, which includes a five-game win streak at the Garden. They haven’t lost a home game since May 9, all the way back in Game 2 against the Cavaliers in the second round. So the C’s have given the fans plenty to cheer about these playoffs.

Now, the C’s will look to bring their 18th championship on their home court. Tickets are already in high demand as the fans know what’s at stake. The C’s currently lead the Mavs 3-1 in the Finals.

“You really just feel the love and support from everybody in the city of Boston, and how bad they want us to win, how much they have been cheering for us,” Jayson Tatum said. “So I don’t look at it as pressure. Just unconditional support, and that we have an amazing fan base here.”
