Homelessness in Hampden County has increased. What are some solutions?

HOLYOKE — Springfield and Holyoke are seeing among the highest rates of homelessness in Western Massachusetts, according to housing officials.

“Homelessness numbers have been up in Hampden County since 2021,” said Gerry McCafferty, Springfield’s housing director. An annual survey conducted in January found 2,901 people in the county were homeless.
