Sportsbooks don’t love Drake Maye’s chances to win Rookie of the Year

Drake Maye was the third quarterback taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, sportsbooks have him further down the pecking order when it comes to his chances to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The No. 3 overall pick by the New England Patriots currently finds himself as a relative longshot to win the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Currently, DraftKings Sportsbook lists Maye with the eighth-best betting odds among rookies to win the award. What’s more glaring is that the sportsbook has Maye fifth among rookie quarterbacks, trailing Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix.

Here are DraftKings’ top eight favorites to win 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year:

  • Bears QB Caleb Williams: +175
  • Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr.: +650
  • Commanders QB Jayden Daniels: +650
  • Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy: +800
  • Giants WR Malik Nabers: +1400
  • Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy: +1600
  • Broncos QB Bo Nix: +1600
  • Patriots QB Drake Maye: +1800

Meanwhile at BetMGM, Maye was tied for the fourth-best odds among rookie QBs to win ROTY (+2000), listed alongside Nix and behind McCarthy, Daniels and Williams.

Both McCarthy (No. 10) and Nix (No. 12) were drafted after Maye. However, the current consensus is that both quarterbacks will be entering better situations on offense as rookies.

It’s also worth noting that Maye’s chances of actually seeing the field are lower than his competition. Unlike the other top quarterbacks drafted this year, Maye enters a situation where his team has a veteran quarterback in place as a short-term starter in the form of Jacoby Brissett.

In comparison to the other top rookie QBs, Maye is considered relatively raw. There’s a solid chance the Patriots give his a “redshirt” season of sorts, having him learn the ropes of the NFL before being thrust into the starting quarterback role.

Meanwhile, New England has some other interesting contenders for ROTY listed on DraftKings Sportsbook. Second-round wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk is listed at +6000. Meanwhile, sixth-round quarterback Joe Milton and seventh-round tight end Jaheim Bell are both listed at +15000.
