DANVILLE, Ind. — A deputy with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office died after coming into contact with live power lines, FOX59 reports.

Deputy Fred Fislar was responding to a crash on April 15 when a passing driver, who also witnessed the crash, noticed the deputy was down. The witness used Fislar’s radio to notify dispatchers.

It was determined that Fislar had come into contact with power lines after arriving at the scene, Hendricks County Sheriff Jack Sadler said.

Fislar was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.

“Our heart is broken for the Fislar family, for our department family and for the community family,” Sadler told FOX59. “I hope that everyone will come together and show honor to a true hero of our community.”

Fislar served with the department for two and a half years. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
