FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Kent Police Department has released body camera video showing the officer involved shooting of a man who was wanted for attacking an elderly man with a hatchet, KOMO News reported.
The video begins by showing surveillance footage of the Dec. 2023 attack. The video shows Paleti Anikesi Veniale, 30, begin to follow a man through a park, according to the report. The footage shows Veniale hit the man with the hatchet repeatedly. The man was listed in satisfactory condition at a hospital as of the March 14 release of the body camera video.

The officer-involved shooting occurred two days after the initial attack, according to the report. Body camera video shows officers pursuing Veniale on foot. Veniale then turned toward the officers, revealing what appeared to be a large knife in his hand. One officer then fell to the ground.
The officers fired several shots at Veniale, bringing him to the ground. He was treated for gunshot wounds at a hospital, where he was found to have methamphetamine and fentanyl in his system, according to the report. Veniale was charged with first degree attempted murder.
