WICHITA, Kan. — A Kansas Highway Patrol K-9 will return to active duty following a severe injury caused by a vehicle crash, KCTV reported.
K-9 Igor spent several days in the ICU after the Jan. 12 incident occurred, according to the report. Troopers had shut down a highway due to a semitrailer having flipped on the roadway.
Dash camera videos show Troopers Travis Budke and Trooper Douglas Schulte standing in front of a cruiser parked beside the highway, instructing drivers to exit. As another semitrailer approaches at a high speed, the troopers attempt to wave him down.
The driver apparently takes no notice of the troopers and barrels into another cruiser, which is parked behind the overturned truck. K-9 Igor was still inside, according to the report.
After a few days in the ICU, Igor was able to return home and make a full recovery, according to the report.
