Longmeadow – The Longmeadow Parks and recreation presents the following fall programs.
Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Classes at Northampton Parks & Rec. Anyone who wishes to apply for one of LPRD’s summer lifeguarding positions should consider this course being offered by the Northampton Parks & Recreation Department. Lifeguard certification is a requirement for all of the their summer lifeguard positions. Grades K-2 Field Hockey Clinic: This hour and a half long free clinic is designed to introduce young girls to the sport of field hockey, allowing them an opportunity to decide if it interests them, with Zero commitment or expense. Clinic will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 12 to 1:30 p.m., at the Longmeadow High School Bantam Field-Hockey Field (across Bliss Road from the high school on Russell Field). Youth Basketball Clinics: Young athletes in grades 3-8 are invited to brush up on (or learn) basketball skills in these two-day clinics led by LHS coaches Pat Murphy and Tim Allen, along with LHS varsity assistant coaches, JV and varsity players. Proceeds from these clinics benefit the LHS Girls’ & Boys Basketball Booster Clubs. Girls Clinics will be held Nov. 8 and 15. Boys’ Clinic will be held on Nov. 14 and 21. Food Explorers Holiday Desserts, Grades 2-5: Join food explorers for some holiday desserts. Each week you’ll make your own dessert and explore new foods and flavors. You’ll be making: mini gingerbread cheesecakes, hot chocolate croissant bites, cinnamon sugar skewers, and chocolate peppermint energy bites. All recipes are nut free. The program is held Thursdays at 4:30 p.m., from Nov. 30 to Dec. 21 at the Longmeadow Community House. Fee is $95 per person. Registration deadline is Nov. 22. Springfield Thunderbirds Discount Tickets: now available at the Parks & Recreation Main Office, 231 Maple Road (The Greenwood Center). Vouchers are redeemable for yellow tier “Center Value” seats for any home Thunderbirds Hockey game at the MassMutual Center. Cost is $25 per voucher and may only be purchased in person.
