9th inning offense not enough, WooSox fall to Durham

Corey Rosier and Chadwick Tromp brought in a pair of late runs for the Worcester Red Sox on Friday, but the Durham Bulls got enough runs across earlier in the game to secure a home win, 5-3.

Tromp led the offense for Worcester, batting in two runs and going 1-for-3 at the plate. Isaiah Campbell got the loss on the mound, pitching two innings, giving up one earned run, a hit and a homer. Shane Drohan started on the bump, pitching 3.2 innings, walking one and striking out nine.

Tromp got the Red Sox on the board with a sacrifice fly to center field in the second inning, bringing in Nathan Hickey.

Nothing came across home again for either team until the fifth inning when Durham’s Tanner Murray hit a solo homer to center field to tie the game. Dominic Keegan added a homer of his own in the seventh inning for the Bulls to give Durham a 2-1 lead.

Jalen Battles singled on a ground ball to pitcher Zack Kelly. Tanner Murray scored for Durham on a throwing error by Kelly to make it 3-1.

Jonny DeLuca and Richie Palacios kept the scoring going, bringing in runs with a single and a double, respectively, making it 5-1.

Rosier and Tromp’s offense in the ninth made a dent, but not enough to get back on top.

Worcester plays again against Durham on Saturday on the road at 6:35 PM.
