A 23-year-old killed in a shooting in Roxbury earlier this month was remembered as a “peacemaker” who was “filled with hope and determination for his future.“
Tanahj Takeem Thompson-Hinnant died on Aug. 4 after a shooting broke out on just before midnight Dudley St., according to Boston police. No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the young man’s death as of Aug. 26.
“Tanahj was not merely a young man with dreams — he was a peacemaker, a beacon of kindness, and a soul whose beauty radiated far beyond the surface,” his loved ones wrote in his obituary.
Thompson-Hinnant was studying auto engineering, and had just completed his first semester when he was killed. He was the kind of person who “pressed forward with perseverance, inspiring those around him,” his loved ones said.
“Those who crossed paths with Tanahj often spoke of his gentleness and of the sweet spirit that defined his character,” his loved ones continued. His “compassion knew no bounds,” and it was a general occurrence for the 23-year-old to engage strangers in “heartfelt conversations,” and help those with mental health issues or experiencing homelessness.
“His empathy was unyielding; his willingness to help, unwavering,” his obituary read.
Services for Thompson-Hinnant were held on Monday at Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury. Anyone with information on his death is asked to contact Boston police homicide detectives at 617-343-4470.
