Northampton Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra emerged as a heavy favorite to win the November election after a preliminary on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Sciarra, the incumbent mayor, earned 2,991 votes out of 6,301 ballots cast in unofficial election night tallies, taking nearly double her closest competitor, unofficial tallies showed.
The other mayoral candidate who will advance to the November ballot with Sciarra is Jillian Duclos, who received 1,510 votes according to unofficial tallies.
Candidates Daniel Breindel and David Dombrowski were both eliminated.
The field narrowed for several City Council seats as well.
A total of six candidates ran for two at-large seats on the City Council. Four will advance to the November ballot.
The four candidates to advance will be:
- Garrick Perry (2,249 votes)
- Margaret Robbins (2,201 votes)
- Benjamin Spencer (1,813 votes)
- Deborah Henson (1,786 votes)
The two remaining candidates — Yakov Kronrod (1,699 votes) and William O’Dwyer (894 votes) — will not advance to November’s ballot.
Three ward councilors — in Wards 1, 3 and 5 — also had contests.
In Ward 1, Gwenevra Nabad (343 votes) and Michele Ronco (277 votes) will advance to the November ballot while Nikolas Letendre-Cahillane (245 votes) was eliminated.
In Ward 3, challenger Laurie Loisel led incumbent Quaverly Rothenberg by a margin of 440 to 308. Both will advance to November’s election to face one another. Challenger Ace Reinhardt Tayloe was eliminated with 223 votes.
Finally, in Ward 5, Aline Davis (439 votes) and Vincent Rotello IV (312 votes) will advance to November, while David Murphy, who trailed Rotello by only a handful of votes (303 compared to 312), was eliminated.
