Two 15-year-old boys were arraigned on Friday in connection with robbing a 9-year-old boy at gunpoint over his phone, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office announced.
Both teenagers were charged with armed robbery and threat to commit a crime, Hayden’s office said in a statement. They were ordered held without bail pending their dangerousness hearings on July 30.
At around 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, Boston police arrived at Children’s Park at the intersection of Intervale and Ferboro streets, Hayden’s office said. Police spoke with a 9-year-old boy who was waiting for a cookout to start when the two boys approached him.
Pointing the gun at the boy, the demanded he give them his iPhone, WCVB-TV reported. After he gave them his phone, the teenagers then asked for his passcode.
“I was terrified,” the boy told the news station. “I was thinking like, ‘What if I die right here on the spot, right here?’ … All he wanted to do is just shoot me right there if I didn’t give him my password.”
The two teenagers then ran down Intervale Street toward Blue Hill Avenue, Boston.com wrote. After police had a description of the two, they found them and arrested them.
Police recovered the iPhone and the gun, which turned out to be fake, the news website reported.
