19-year-old facing charges after teen stabbed during Chelsea fight, reports say

A 19-year-old East Boston man is facing charges after a teenager was stabbed during a large fight involving a group of baseball bat-wielding individuals on Monday afternoon, according to Boston25.

The brawl between a group of people with baseball bats was reported in the area of Hawthorne and Essex streets around 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 4, the news outlet reported. A 17-year-old victim was brought to a Boston hospital non-life-threatening injuries as a result, Boston25 said.

“Two people are in custody and we have recovered evidence supporting the initial 9-1-1 call,” Chelsea police wrote on Facebook. “The area school was on soft lockdown pursuant to their protocol but since lifted.”

Chelsea police the incident was resolved at around 6:12 p.m., according to the Facebook post. Authorities believe the incident was not random, and that there was no threat to the public, police said.

The 19-year-old is expected to be arraigned Tuesday on several charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife) causing serious bodily injury and malicious destruction of property, Boston25 reported. His name was not released.

Chelsea police are encouraging anyone with questions, concerns or looking to report any suspicious activity to call them at 617-466-4800. Police will also have a greater presence “in specific areas” because of the incident, the department added on Facebook. The investigation is ongoing.
