18-year-old Massachusetts man dies in Vermont crash

An 18-year-old from East Boston died Sunday after a car crash in Vermont.

Around 12:40 p.m., a 2013 Ford Explorer with three people inside was traveling northbound on Interstate 91 in Barton, Vermont in the rain when it veered off the right side of the road, down an embankment and hit a concrete wall that diverted running water, Vermont State Police said.

The driver, identified as Ediberto Luna, 30, East Boston, has serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to North Country Hospital. Luna was then taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Luna was the only person in the car wearing a seat belt, according to police.

The front seat passenger, identified as Jorge Caballeros, 33, of East Boston, also has serious injuries but are not believed to be life-threatening.

The 18-year-old, identified as Brian Sanchez, was in the back of the car. He was taken to North Country Hospital where he died.
