1 person killed after fire breaks out at Mass. home Thursday

A person was killed after their Taunton home caught fire Thursday afternoon, the city’s fire department confirmed in a brief statement.

Taunton firefighters responded to the fire at 19 North Walker St. at around 3:34 p.m. on Thursday. First arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the home and started a “quick, aggressive interior attack” with a hose line, Taunton Fire Chief Steven Lavigne said in a statement.

As they battled the fire, firefighters found an adult occupant of the home still inside. They were pronounced dead at the scene, Lavigne said.

Firefighters put the flames out within roughly 10 minutes, he said.

Officials did not immediately provide the identity of the person killed or any information about what may have caused the fire.
