YWCA receives record donations, but it is never too much

SPRINGFIELD — “The generosity we saw this year was overwhelming. I mean it was over half a million dollars worth of donations,” YWCA CEO Elizabeth Dineen said. “The thing that is kind of amazing is usually the donations stop on December 24th. Today is the 19th (of January), and we just got another big donation.”

It is not often you hear the head of a nonprofit, especially one that helps the victims of domestic violence, sex abuse, human trafficking or even just people who can’t afford warm clothes, enthusing about how much they received from the community. To be sure, even with the whole third floor of the YWCA campus on Clough Street packed to the rafters with clothes, toys, games — everything a household would need — it will be gone very soon.
