San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey got married over the weekend to influencer and former Miss USA winner Olivia Culpo as part of a wedding loaded with familiar NFL faces.
Not included among those faces was Cam Newton. On his “4th & 1″ podcast, Newton did not shy away in his reaction to seeing photos and videos of McCaffrey’s wedding, which took place at the Ocean House in Westerly, Rhode Island.
“Damn, C-Mac, I couldn’t get an invite?” Newton said.
Newton admitted he was a little “bitter” he didn’t get an invite, but appeared be having a laugh with the whole thing. You can watch the clip of Newton’s reaction here.
“You’re lucky I wasn’t there, C-Mac, because I would have crashed that (expletive),” Newton said later. “I would have crashed it man. Oh my God, it looks like they had so much fun, man.”
Newton was McCaffrey’s first quarterback in the NFL. The two played three seasons together when they were with the Carolina Panthers.

So why did Newton get snubbed? McCaffrey responded to an Instagram clip of the former quarterback’s bombastic reaction with a tongue-in-cheek scene comment.
“I haven’t got a text back in 4 years. In fact, they just go green now,” McCaffrey wrote.
It was four years ago that Newton was cut by the Panthers, leading to him landing with the New England Patriots in free agency.
For his part, Newton did respond to McCaffrey’s comment, asking for what phone number he currently uses, joking that he should share it there in the comments.
With that said, Newton admits that he may have declined to go. But he still wanted the invite.
“I don’t know if I would have been able to go … I at least wanted to say, ‘Nah, bro, I can’t make it.’ I at least wanted to give you a present,’ Newton said.
Newton spent the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the Panthers, winning the league’s MVP award in 2015. He played the 2020 season with the Patriots before returning to Carolina for a brief stint in 2021.
The 35-year-old Newton has not played an NFL game since 2021. Newton has claimed in recent years that he’s had interest from teams regarding a return to the field, but was holding out for the right situation.
