I recently received a letter from Eversource informing me and their other residential heating customers that our winter heating rate for natural gas has risen by 27%, as compared to last winter.
How, in all good conscience, did the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities approve such an enormous rate hike when many people are already struggling to pay the rising cost of groceries, health care, and rent or property taxes?
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities states on its government webpage that “the mission of the DPU is to ensure that consumers’ rights are protected, and that utility companies are providing the most reliable service at the lowest possible cost.”
