David Hamilton again led all Red Sox minor leaguers in stolen bases for a second straight season in 2023.
The 26-year-old Hamilton broke Double-A Portland’s single season stolen base record in 2022 when he had 70 steals. He then broke Triple-A Worcester’s single season record with 57 steals in 2023. It was a record that had been held since 1983 by Lee Graham when he stole 51 for the then-Pawtucket Red Sox.
Hamilton also added two steals for Boston to total 59 steals. He made his major league debut June 21 and appeared in 15 games for Boston.
“There are guys that run hard and (make it) look hard but then there’s guys who can just glide and look so effortless (like Hamilton),” Red Sox speedster Jarren Duran said in April.
Duran added, “People tell me when I run, I look like I’m mad at the ground and I beat up the ground with my feet. I’ve seen it. And Fitzy (Ryan Fitzgerald) makes fun of me. He says I run like a lizard that runs on water, like crazy. But Hammy just glides.”
