Whipping winds to fuel another day of bitter cold throughout Massachusetts

Bitter cold temperatures fueled by whipping wind gusts will continue Thursday, though some relief is on the way for the Bay State.

Light snow showers were underway in Eastern Massachusetts early Thursday morning, but National Weather Service forecasters say the snow will result only in minimal accumulations. The snow was expected to last through mid-afternoon.

But it’s the wind Bay Staters should worry about.

Forecasters set down a wind advisory covering almost the entirety of southern New England, except for southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The advisory, which covers parts of Middlesex, Essex, Suffolk, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden and Worcester counties, warns of wind gusts up to 45 mph that could “blow around unsecured objects.”

The strong winds will make the already cold temperatures feel much colder. Highs throughout Massachusetts are projected in the high 20s and low 30s, but the wind will make it feel more like the teens, forecasters say.

Some relief finally arrives on Friday. While it will still be breezy Friday morning, the winds should die down by the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 30s.
