Where is Rosevelt Colvin, former Patriots star whose son is in March Madness?

Long before the New England Patriots paid out big money to Milton Williams and Stefon Diggs, there was Rosevelt Colvin. A major free-agent signing during the Bill Belichick era, Colvin won a pair of Super Bowls in New England. Let’s check in with what he’s doing these days:

Where are former Patriots now? Rosevelt Colvin (2003-2007, 2008)

The 47-year-old Colvin is back living in his hometown of Indianapolis. Since leaving football, he’s stayed busy running multiple businesses. He currently owns five UPS stores in the area.

Colvin started entrepreneurial efforts back when he was a player. By 2006, while he was still with the Patriots, he already owned two UPS locations.

In 2009, Colvin helped his wife, Tiffany, realize her dream of opening a bakery. The Colvins co-owned SweeTies Gourmet Treats, which had two locations around Indianapolis, for around 15 years. The menu at SweeTies even featured a cake called the “Tom Brady.” It was a yellow cake with chocolate frosting, which is the former quarterback’s favorite.

SweeTies closed its doors in the summer of 2023. But the shop’s Facebook page is still active, especially when it comes to promoting the athletic endeavors of the Colvins’ children. The former linebacker has said one of his important occupations post-football is “being a volleyball and basketball dad.”

Rosevelt’s daughter, Raven, was a volleyball standout at Purdue, Colvin’s alma mater. She’s since gone pro after being drafted in January by the Grand Rapids Rise of the Professional Volleyball Federation.

Rosevelt’s son, Myles, is also a Boilermaker and has been part of Purdue’s run through the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. The sophomore guard received national attention for a highlight-reel dunk he threw down in the team’s first-round win. You can watch the dunk here.

Fittingly enough, Purdue’s opening games were played in New England, with Rosevelt in attendance. The former Patriots linebacker was spotted cheering from the stands at the games, which were played in Providence.

As the Boston Globe noted, both Myles and Raven were born in Rhode Island while their father was playing for the Patriots.

“I’m forever grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here, and for Myles to have this opportunity now coming back here. We were looking forward to being back in the area. We’re blessed,” Rosevelt said to the Globe. “Me and my wife are living a life of luxury. We are so humbled and blessed to be back in the area. Hopefully, it’s a successful trip times two for Purdue.”

Rosevelt Colvin spent 10 seasons in the NFL. He started out as a fourth-round pick of the Chicago Bears back in 1999.

After posting back-to-back seasons with 10.5 sacks, Colvin became a prized target in free agency in 2003. The Patriots made a couple of their first big free-agent signings that year, signing safety Rodney Harrison as well as Colvin.

The Patriots signed Colvin to a seven-year, $30 million contract. That’s chump change nowadays. But back then, it was the biggest deal ever handed out to a free agent linebacker.

Colvin’s tenure in New England was derailed by injuries. While he was with the Patriots, the team played in three Super Bowls, winning two. However, he only appeared in one of those championship games.

After signing with the Patriots in 2003, Colvin played just two games before suffering a devastating hip injury.

Colvin returned to the first in 2004 to play a role in the team’s Super Bowl run that year, playing in all 16 games.

Colvin was a steady presence for the next few seasons until a season-ending foot injury in 2007, which caused him to miss that year’s Super Bowl.

Colvin’s best season as a Patriot came in 2006, when he started 15 games and came up with 8.5 sacks. Pro Football Reference credits him with a whopping 27 quarterback hits that season.

The Patriots released Colvin following the 2007 season. In 2008, he spent training camp with the Houston Texans, but was released during roster cuts. In December of that season, the Patriots brought Colvin back for one last stint.
