What they‘re saying nationally after Patriots’ wild comeback win vs. Jets

It was a wild finish at Gillette Stadium Sunday as the New England Patriots capped off a wild comeback win against the New York Jets.

Drake Maye went down after a controversial hit. Jacoby Brissett came in and led the Patriots on a game-winning touchdown drive. Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich described it as a “moment of darkness” for his team.

It was a chaotic afternoon as the Patriots snapped their six-game losing streak. Unsurprisingly, there were plenty of opinions online in the wake of the game. Here’s a rundown of some of the most notable reactions from across the nation after the game:

Rich Cimini, ESPN

“It’s official: The Jets are a train wreck. That is all.”

Mike Francesa, WFAN radio host (via the New York Post)

“I’ve come to the conclusion that isn’t Aaron Rodgers. It’s somebody else in that body. This has all been another bad trick. I’ve come to the conclusion that if the Jets had traded for Jim Brown in his prime that they would have made him a third down back. They could ruin any player!”

Steve Serby, New York Post

” The Jets are such a cruel joke, it isn’t even funny. And the joke is on their fans yet again. Remember all those Super Bowl dreams that mushroomed when Aaron Rodgers arrived as the so-called savior? Forget them.”

Jason Fitzgerald, Over The Cap

“Patriots had been outscored 142-63 the last 5 weeks. Unreal for the Jets to be like this. And people want to talk about extending some of these players? Time to get out the draft standings and start over again.”

Brian Costello, New York Post

“The Jets are in a death spiral, and the coaches have not been able to snap them out of it.”

Mitch Goldich, Sports Illustrated

“With the Jets falling to 2-6, they may want to think about being sellers at the deadline. Maybe they could trade Davante Adams to a contender.”

Zack Rosenblatt, The Athletic

“This Jets season can officially be called a disaster. Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, it did. Back to the basement for one of the NFL’s worst teams.”

Booger McFarland, ESPN

“Jets need to trade for , Jets need to do this and that. Maybe just maybe the Jets are a bad team with an old quarterback who isn’t who he was and giving him all the power in the organization was a terrible idea”

Mike Greenberg, ESPN

“In a season filled with embarrassing performances, that was the worst. In a history filled with horrible seasons, this may be the worst. The #Jets of 2024 are one of the truly colossal failures in recent sports memory. And it only gets worse from here.”

Bill Simmons, The Ringer

The Jets went all in on 2024 and won’t dump their kicker who costs them 4-6 points every week. It’s hilarious.

Nate Burleson, CBS Sports

“For the life of me, I can not understand how this offense isn’t moving and grooving and how this team cannot close out games.”

Matt Ryan, CBS Sports

“Quite simply, there are no more moves to be made in the New York Jets organization for this season. They’ve tried everything, changing coaches, changing coordinators, bringing in wide receivers. They are who they are.”

Meghan Ottolini, WEEI

“Hear me out: I’m more optimistic about the Patriots’ quarterback situation with Drake Maye than the Jets’ future with Aaron Rodgers.”

Bart Scott, former Jets linebacker

““I’m disgusted, actually. As a former Jet, embarrassed, ashamed, defending this team every single week up until this point. But now they have to take accountability. Now, you run out of people to blame … Now they’ve become exactly what people always say: The same old Jets.””

The Irish Tribune

“Notre Dame has scored more touchdowns in MetLife Stadium this year than the New York Jets & Giants combined… Notre Dame: 7 Touchdowns (1 Game)
Jets & Giants: 6 Touchdowns (7 Games)”

Khari Thompson, Boston.com

“Pats got called soft then won on a 4th-and-1 gotta have it possession. That’s hard. Fitting way to end the W.”

Chad Graff, The Athletic

That was what the Patriots have wanted to be all season. Overmatched talent-wise, sure. But tough. Big-time runs when needed. Answering in the big moments.

Tim Healey, Newsday

“Baseball season really outlasted football season in New York”

Glenn Ordway, former WEEI radio host

“Nice W…especially when you consider how much more talent the Jets have over the Patriots…What does that say about the Jets?…Well they still have that trophy from 1969″

Andrew Callahan, Boston Herald

“Called out by their coach. Playing without their QB. Home underdogs against a far more talented team and Hall of Fame QB. What a gut-check win for the Patriots.”

Steve Gelbs, SportsNet New York

“A Jets season that began with Super Bowl expectations is over on October 27th … I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a more inexcusable loss than the Jets game today.”
